PREPARING FOR TELECOMMUNICATION OUTAGES
Not relying on a single type of communications technology is important to stay informed during an emergency or natural disaster, since mobile, landline and internet service may not be available. Steps to prepare include:
● Add a portable radio with spare batteries to your emergency kit.
● Keep your mobile charged and have a backup power source.
● Have cash on hand in case EFTPOS or ATMs don't work.
● Prepare an emergency plan and share it with family and friends before it is needed.
● Keep a paper copy of contact details for family and friends.
● Monitor radio and television stations and local emergency service websites and social media for up-to-date warnings and information.
● Follow advice from emergency personnel on the ground and Emergency Alert phone messages if received.
Emergency Kit
An emergency kit helps save precious time in an emergency situation. They provide items which may be needed if power is lost or if there is a need to leave in a hurry.
